You might be wondering, what the heck are these guys doing writing
another bbs when there are so many other good programs out there
now? I don't know if I really have an answer for that one except
that what we perceive as a great program is one that has all or
most of the features that we like. There ARE a lot of great
programs out there, PC Board, Wildcat, GAP, RBBS, and many others.
What we have tried to do is to develop a foundation on which a bbs
can be built to your specifications. There are yards of
flexibility in this program from user defined command keys, to
changing colors, doors, and so on... FORCE is a combination of
many things that we liked in a bbs, plus some new innovations to
allow a sysop to add "their own" ideas to the program without
having to be a programmer. How many guys out there have taken
existing bbs code, spent sleepless nights hacking it so that
it,looked and felt a little like what they wanted to see? FORCE!
gives you the ability to have a plain vanilla answering machine
with a simple command structure, or a powerful blockbuster BBS with
all the features that you have ever wanted! We hope that you will
like this program, and want to run it as your own. It is our
intent to help out whenever we can. There are no egos here. Just
plain guys like yourself trying to do something that they enjoy.
Feel free to call our BBS's in order to get questions answered, add
comments, criticism, or new ideas. We welcome all, and look
forward to another FORCE BBS going up!

2 POLICY, HISTORY, AND OTHER STUFF...

Let me give you a brief description of our policy, what we are
doing with this BBS, and where we will be in the future.

As of this writing, FORCE! is moving into version 3.75. The first
people reading this manual will be the beta test sysops. FORCE!
will be tested as such, and not released to the general public
until we feel that all of the bugs, (do you ever really get ALL of
            them?) have been ironed out.

The first release was in Feb of 1989. At that time we started
with the release of version 1.00.

Each major releas of FORCE! will increment up one whole number
like 1.00 to 2.00, or 3.00 to 4.00. The minor releases which
are mainly for bug fixes and small sysop requests will
increment up less than 1, for example, 3.00 to 3.25.

FORCE! will remain shareware up to, and including 4.00 EXCEPT
for the 4.00 multi-line version of FORCE! This will be a
registration only product as it requires much programming time
            and effort to support.

                                                                             2
The structure of the version numbers as shown below denote the
progress of FORCE! over the past year.

                 (S) - Shareware version (R) - Registrtion Only

                     totally re-configured online! Several
                     utilities now available.

locking baud up over 100,000 baud, plus
a ton of new enhancements asked for by
                     FORCE! sysops!!

              2.1 COSTS

The costs will be $99.00 for the shareware package. We
invite you to try it out for 90 days. At this time, you
MUST make a decision whether or not you wish to pay the
registration fee. If you do not pay the registration fee,
you cannot continue to run this software as it is SHAREWARE,
              and NOT FREE!!

I will not elaborate on the rights and wrongs or punishment
for stealing. I will trust that you are a honest human
              being from the start.

              2.2 THE SHAREWARE CONCEPT 3

Here-in ANY reference to The Phoenix Software Group, Guy
Smith, or Jim Langley will be referred to as PSG, or The
              Phoenix Software Group.

              FORCE! is distributed as SHAREWARE.

Shareware is commercial software distributed in an
unconventional manner. Microcomputers copy information very
easily. Instead of trying to frustrate this through copy
protection, shareware takes advantage of it to reach as many
users as possible at the lowest cost. Anyone may copy a
shareware program and distribute it to whomever they desire,
provided they do not charge a fee or alter it. Shareware
isn't free. Serious shareware is as polished as any
conventional commercial product, and represents just as much
programming effort. If you use it regularly, the authors
              expect compensation. However, unlike conventional
distribution, shareware allows you to evaluate the product
before you decide to purchase it. The price is often lower,
as well, because there are no advertising, packaging, or
distribution costs. But it can only work with your
support. If you are still using a shareware product after a
couple of weeks, then it is obviously worth something to
you, and you should register it.

            4 INSTALLATION 4

I always hated the installation of programs because of the
hassles of figuring out what to do. Therefore we have tried
to make this as painless as possible, and will try to make
things as clear as we can.

            * Step 1 Get into Dos and create a \BBS directory. Copy the
FORCEXXX.ARC file into the \BBS directory.
(Note that "XXX" reflects the current version of
                       FORCE!)

            * Step 2 Un-Arc the file "FORCEXXX". This will un-arc all
of the .exe files needed to run the basic system.

            * Step 3 Run "INSTALL". This program will install all of
the BBS system files in the desired directory paths
                       for your bbs.

            * Step 4 Run "CONFIG" to modify any parameters in your
system. You will define color, command structure,
                       etc... in this program.
(see next page for a detailed description of
                       CONFIG)

You should now have all of the system files in their proper
place. When run, the install program made the directories you
defined, and copied the FORCE files into them.

Please note that the menu screens are AUTO-DEFINING. You can
build your own menus if you like. See "FORCE! Menus" for more
            information.

              4.1 RUNNING INSTALL

You will see a nice screen that displays FORCE! in big
letters, and a small menu at the bottom center of the
screen. If you are installing FORCE! for the first time,
select "Quick Installation". You will hear the hard disk
wirr, and the whole thing will take about 20 seconds. The
install program will create the proper directories, and
place the right files into them. You in turn will need to
get into the config program to set your com port, and change
the default name of your bbs, sysop name and password.

If you are upgrading your system from 2.00, just select
"Upgrade 2.00", and it will take care of everything for
you! Remember to read through this manual to understand all
of the new settings, and additions.

The Detailed Installation is not functional at this time...

That's all there is to it!! You are now ready to start
configuring your FORCE! BBS system... but first!!

              4.2 DIRECTORIES 5

FORCE uses directories that YOU define. What you will need
to do is, setup your directory structure on a piece of
paper, and then think about it... Is it in a logical
order? Do you use logical names for directories?

              Try names like:

              *  "IBMU" for IBM Utilities
              *  "IBMG" for IBM Games
              *  "TEXT" for Text Files

Next you will find an example of what our directory tree
looks like. You may use it as a guide, or fill in the
directory structure as you think best.

A typical FORCE dir tree looks about like this...

               c:\BBS--: Where .EXE files reside

:--MENUS All of your menus xxxx.ans/.80

You can place as many file dir's, doors etc as you want in
the \bbs directory. Just keep things organized as you go,
and it will save a lot of trouble.

            5 CONFIGURATION

Config is the system utility that you must use to tell FORCE
how you would like your BBS setup. The program is menu
driven, and you can move around in it with a mouse, or the
arrow keys. Type in the desired information, save it, and you
will be ready to run FORCE.

Config breaks the programmable features of FORCE down into
several different areas, all of which need to be defined.
When you ran install and performed the Quick Installation, it
setup a basic configuration for you. At that point, you only
needed to modify 2 or 3 things to have a basic FORCE! setup.

press F1 and get on-line help. A pop up menu will tell
you what the different function keys will do for you. If
you hit the F3 key, you can get active help on all the
                MetaCommands.

Here are the active keys from the Active Conference
                Commands screen.

                <F1> - Help Online Help
<F2> - Clear ALL Keys Erases ALL of the setups for the
                                          current conference.
<F3> - MetaCommand Help Active help for MetaCommands
<F4> - Move Key Moves one command key to another
                                          location. Remember that it will
                                          overwrite any information of the
                                          key it is replacing!

The active conference command screen will allow you to
setup each command letter with a function, security
levels, set parameters, etc... Now, the first thing you
will want to do is define the conference that you
selected. Escape out of help and let's hit the F4 key
                and see what happens.

The Conf Command Keys are the keys that you want active
in this conference. In this configuration, if someone
hit an "H", there would be no response because the key

Here are some items you will see when creating or changing a
           conference.

Conference Name The Name you would like for the conference

Conference Password If used, the user entering this conference
must enter the configured password before
gaining access to the conference. All
conferences with passwords will be marked
                                private in the areas listing.

Conference Level Must have at least this level to enter the
                                conference.

Conference Command This is a list of the allowable keys for use
Keys in the conference. Note that in order to
add a command in the menu, you must first,
add the key here, THEN configure the command
(described later ). If you do not add the
key to this list, the command will not work!

Sysop Level This is the level for sysop access to this
                                conference. BE CAREFUL!
If you give someone this level of access to
your system, they with the right knowledge,
could totally re-configure the system from
top to bottom! We give you other options
for sysop access in FORCE!, don't be too
                                liberal here!

Press <esc> to go back one screen, and let's look at the
key commands. Hit an "F", and this window will pop up...

The Program Path/Name may be a FORCE! Metacommand.
To get a beter idea of what Metacommands are, refer to
Reference C where all the commands are explained in
                detail.

                5.3.6 A Word About Control

The "greater than", "less than" and "equal to" signs are
for setting a control level for different items that you
wish to run. For instance, setting the above control ">3"
would only let someone into the file area that has a level
of 4 or higher. If you set it "=9", only people with a
level of 9 would have access to this command. This is
useful for giving specific menu commands to certain
people. Nice for new users or co-sysops!

                5.3.7 Parameters

Parameters are simply something that you pass from one
thing to another. For example, you could pass a filename,
or path to something. FORCE! allows you to pass up to 5
parameters to whatever command you are setting up. Note
that if you are using a Metacommand, some parameter areas
may be taken for defined options.

Please refer to Reference D for detailed examples of
                parameters

Undder File Stuff you will find two areas of configuration.

              *  Protocols
              *  ARC Viewers

                5.4.1 Protocols

All Protocols Used By FORCE! are EXTERNAL PROGRAMS!

We recommend DSZ.exe as a starting point, but add a ton
                more if you like!

Hit <esc> twice, and let's select "File Stuff", then
"Protocols". This allows you to set your system up to use
up to 26 EXTERNAL protocols. You can define the key that
is pressed to select a protocol, as well as other things.
Hit "A", and this information will pop up...

This is pretty easy. the batch files should be located in the
dir that you defined as your .bat directory. FORCE! will look
          for them there.

Refer to the doc's of the protocol that you are using for
specifics on how each batch file should be written.

The parameters passed to the protocols are as follows...

                         %8 Filename 6

PLEASE refer to the protocol, and, or arc viewer author's
docs if you do not understand what is going on. We do not
write protocols, or ARC viewers, and thus can not support
them. We just provide the means for you to easily access
them from the bbs. They still require a proper batch file
to access their capabilities. REFERENCE E may help you,
                if not, call the author...

That's all there is to File Stuff! Hit <esc> twice to get
to the top and select "Batch" for your Logon and Logoff
                batch commands.

              5.5 Batch Processing

Batch Processing is a unique option within FORCE! Usually,
you would have to run force from a batch file with a series
of options that are executed in the batch when someone logs
on. Not so with FORCE! If you want to run a series of
events late at nite, and do not want to build a large batch
file to do all of them, you can do it all from FORCE!

5.5.1 LogOn and LogOff Batch 17

LogOn and LogOff Batch will allow you to setup what you
want the BBS to do when someone logs on, and off. A lot
of BBS's force you to run from a batch file. Doing this
executes a lot of useful functions such as top uploaders,
"Today in History", news, etc... You don't have to do
that sort of thing with FORCE! BBS. Just setup each task
to be executed, and we do the rest!

You can have up to 26 events configured for Event1, and
the same for Event2. The starting time for each batch of
events are defined in the config program under "General
Info". Each batch of events are configured EXACTLY like
Logon and Logoff batch, and start 1 minute before the time
that you set. Events automatically adjust the user's time
when on as to not interfear with the batch. If anyone
should call within one hour before an event, the system
will inform them of an upcomming event, and give them the
option of logging off, or continuing to log on if they
                wish.

** HINT ** Use Events to run daily maintance tasks such
                as TOP, or Net-Mail!

Let's look at an example of a system setup to run an event
                at 3:00 AM...

            (12:00 AM)
            ----------------------------------------------------

            Nothing happing, normal operation...

            (1:00 AM)
            -----------------------------------------------------

            Nothing here either!

            (2:00 AM)
            -----------------------------------------------------
If a caller logs on during this time, the system will tell
them how much time is left till an event. It will then give
them the option of logging on or not... If the user chooses to
log on now, their time will be adjusted as to not interfere
with the upcomming event. If the user has more time left
than the adjusted time, the system will restore the balance
            upon logoff.
            (2:59 AM)
            -----------------------------------------------------
The event starts 1 minute ahead of the time that you have
defined. If a user is online, the system will log them off.
It will then execute all the tasks you set it up to do.

            (3:00 AM)
            -----------------------------------------------------

              5.6 Quit 19

The Quit selection gives you two options:

              *  Save
              *  Abort

If you select Save, config will do just that... Save your
              chenges!

If you select Abort, all of the new changes you have made
will not be saved, but aborted.

              5.7 Finished?

Since you have now completed the config program, check to
see that you have made all of the right directories and that
the proper files are in each one. You now should be ready
to run this thing, so why not type "force" right now, and
let's see what happens! Did it come up with a call
waiting screen? If so, GREAT!! If not, rerun config, and
check all of the settings. If you have any questions, feel
free to call us and get an answer within a day minimum.

            6 DOORS 20

There are a ton of doors written for all of the major bbs's.
Probably one of the strongest features of FORCE! is the fact
that (at this time), it can run every one, except WWIV doors,
(and even that may be coming soon!). Force writes one of five
types of door files, and you decide which one you would like
            to use!

                    *  A:DOOR.SYS
                    *  B:CALLINFO.BBS
                    *  C:PCBOARD.SYS(14)
                    *  D:PCBOARD.SYS(12)
                    *  E:DORINFO1.DEF

Define one of these door files (A - E) in your conference
            active commands.

You should make a seperate directory for each door. Try to
name the door directory what the program docs tell you to name
it. For almost every door program you will need to modify 2
            files.

EXAMPLE.CFG (Where example is the name of the door pgm)
            EXAMPLE.BAT

Here is a typical example for most PCBoard doors.

EXAMPLE.BAT: Example of a batch file

cd\bbs\example change to the example dir.
example example.cfg run example passing example.cfg
cd\bbs change back to the \bbs dir.

It's that simple to make the batch file!

Use the door docs to show you how to modify the .cfg file that
came with the door. Remember to tell your door where to look
            for door.sys, Pcboard.sys, Callinfo.bbs, or Dorinfo1.def
etc... Once you have set up your door, you can go back and
initiate the batch from a command key defined in the config
            program under "Active Conference Commands".

If you get confused with how to set up doors, PLEASE call the
author of the door! If we did not write it, we can't support
it! We just give you the means to access the door, and can
not warrent that which we did not develop.

            7 OPERATION 21

FORCE! is a very flexible program to run, and you will find it
easy as well as powerful in features! We hope you will make
suggestions to us as how we can improve on it!

              7.1 Sysop Hot Key Commands

Once you are setup and running, you will find several
commands accessible from the Waiting for Caller Screen, as
              well as on-line user editing.

Hit the "home" key and you will get the toolbox menu.

          ** NOTE **

The home key is password protected with the sysop
          password.

              7.3 User Editors 23

FORCE! comes with a powerful user editor as you will see.
It is divided into two separate parts, off-line, and
              on-line.

              * OFF-LINE The editor that you access from the sysop's
                            toolbox.

              * ON-LINE Editor that you access when you are calling
                            the bbs from remote.

                7.3.1 Off-Line User Editor

When you hit the F1 key from the toolbox, a user editor
will pop up, giving you the ability to edit anything in
                the user's file.

You will notice that there is a list of users on the left,
and you can see all the stats of the first user record.

To edit a person's record, just move the cursor over their
name, (in the left column) and press enter. This will
make this record active so you can make changes. Move to
the field that you wish to change. If you have more than
23 users, you can use the "pg-dn" or "pg-up" keys to move
forward or back from each group of users..

You can also get help here by pressing "F1". Let's see
what the help screen looks like.

                7.3.3 On-Line User Editor

You can also access a very powerful online user editor.
The command key is configured by you, tied to a
METACOMMAND called "UTILITY". On entering, this prompt
                will come up...

                   (59 min):User to Edit?<Q=QUIT>:

You may enter all or part of the user's name or alias, OR
a level number. The system will do a search for anything
that matches what you just typed in. Let's say that at
                the prompt we entered "Gar"...

If you want to check for any new users when you are
on-line from a remote, just enter the level that you set
the new user default to, and the editor will find anyone
with that level, thus, a new user! Hit return and you
will get the user record in the database.

If it finds a match(es), it will display this...

                (59 min):User to Edit?<Q=QUIT>: Gar
                Alias : "Garfield"
                Name : (Mike Holland)
                Correct User? <Y/n/q>:

At this point you can enter one of three responses.

"Q" Quits out of the user editor

"N" Moves to the next user match found, or returns back
to the user editor main prompt.

                "Y" Brings you into this...

7.4 Using The Message Base 26

Built into FORCE! is an easy to use message system that is
well suited for the first time, as well as the power user
running a bbs. Each conference message base can be divided
into "areas". In fact, at this time you can have up to 26
message areas per conference! Now, when you consider that
you can have up to 26 conferences, that means a possible 676
message bases! That's enough for anyone! Let's take a
look at the command structure. After selecting the message
system from the host conference, you will be met with a
              prompt that looks like this...

             :---------Host Conference
             : :-------Current Message Area
: : :-----Total Number Messages in Area

               :-------Time Left on System

If you hit the "?" key, you will see a menu that like this.

              (E)nter (A)rea Change (Q)uit (R)ead (L)ist Titles

Enter Use this command to enter messages into the
message area. Upon hitting "E" for "enter
message", you will be prompted for the person to
send your message to, as well as the title of the
message. You can abort the message by hitting
                         return at both prompts.

The next step is simply entering the message. You will see
              another prompt like this...

At this time, you may begin to enter your message. Remember
that you had set the Max number of lines that could be
entered in a message? Well, it now affects how many lines
              can be entered here.

                7.4.1 Entering a Message 27

Now the fun begins! If you are an ANSI user, you can
change colors while entering messages! Just use the "|"
(pipe sign) followed by a number from 0 to 15 to change
the foreground colors. You will notice that when entering
the pipe sign, that it does not show up on the display.
Don't worry about it, it's for your convenience! You WILL
however notice that the color of the text changes AFTER
you have entered the number code. You can also change the
background colors by using the "@" (at sign) instead of
the pipe. Valid numbers are 0 to 7.

will only see the areas that have a level equal or less
                than the current user level.

List At this time, you can generate one of two
                              types of file listings:

              1. (D)etailed
              2. (N)ormal. (enter = normal)

              Here's how it's done...

Enter "L" for "List", and then a "D" for "Detailed". You
may then select a range of files that you wish to see.
Select a number to see just that file. You can also enter
4-37 to see the files in that range, 40- to see all files
above 40, or just return to see all the files.

Once you select a range, then "D", you will see a listing 33
that looks like the one shown below...

           Select Protocol:

You can now select the protocol that you want by hitting the
correct command, "Y" for Ymodem, "Z" for Zmodem, etc...

After selecting the desired protocol, you will be asked for
the file number, name, or partial name to download. This is
a nice feature, because you don't have to remember the exact
filename, just the something of where it was in the
listing. If you entered a partial name, the system will
prompt you with selections that match your entry asking for
a Y/N response to each until it get's a "Y". Of course you
can always just enter the file number instead.

Press return, and it aborts the download. After selecting
the file number, you will see another prompt describing the
file, transfer time, size, and amount of blocks in the file.

The system also gives you the option of auto-logoff after
completing the download. Answer yes or no to this and then
set up your modem for a download. If you said yes to
auto-logoff, when completing the download, you will have 10
seconds to hit any key. If no action is taken, the system
              will logoff for you.

You will have 2 lines of 40 columns to describe your file.
This is so that 40 column users can list the files without
              breaking up the description.

After entering the description, the computer will tell you
that it's ready to receive file(s). After you upload the
file, it will tell you that the transfer is complete and
return you to the file system prompt.

              7.7 Bulletins

FORCE! has incorporated an easy to use system for displaying
public OR private bulletins. The system is set up so that
the user file keeps track of which bulletins have been
read. All bulletins have a security level that you can set
              to keep out un-wanted visitors.

When entering the bulletin area, you will see the standard
              bulletin prompt.

At this point you may hit a "?" to see a list of what
bulletins are available. This will show a 40/80 column list
of bulletins with a corresponding letter prefix.

              7.8 FORCE! Menus

FORCE! allows a lot of flexibility in the use of menus. All
of the menus can be created with some type of ansi editor.
We recommend something like TheDraw, or AnsiDraw. FORCE!
supports all ansi colors and animation.

First, make the menu picture, then save it as one of the
filenames listed below. It is best to make a block of the
picture, and then save the block as a file. This makes for
faster menus, and smaller files too!

There's not much to say about making menus, so I will list 36
the files, and descriptions so you will understand what
              FORCE! is looking for.

** HINT ** Be creative! The look and feel of FORCE! is
only limited by your imagination! Use level based menus for
              new users, co-sysops etc...

There are quite a few things that the sysop can do on-line.
Some of which are configuring the system! This gives the

                7.9.4 File System Sysop Commands

The file system is set up almost exactly like the message
bases. This was done in order to keep the same thought
process throughout the bbs. The file areas, as well as
the message bases are just about the only portions of this
bbs that are cast in concrete. You can not change them.
This will help to keep things in those areas standard so
that networking will be easier to do at a later date.
Remember at the beginning of the manual I mentioned
something about file directories? Let's look at the file
directory structure and how it should be setup. First
of all, you should make a sub-directory for each file
area. Call it say... "IBMU" for IBM utilities, or "APPLE"
for apple files, "GRAPHICS" for a graphics area etc...

By keeping your directories separate, it makes things 40
easier when doing maintenance. Now you can look into the
IBMU dir and see only those files associated with IBM
utilities. Another thing for you to consider is keeping
the file descriptions clean and concise. This will help
people when they go through the listings of your files on
the board. Let's take a look at the sysop file commands,
and what they mean. The sysop file system editor is
accessible from the file system prompt by hitting a "*".
The computer checks for your level and if it is high
enough, you will have access to these commands.

Area: Change to another area. This is useful when
                             creating a new file area.

Edit Area: Do exactly that! Edit the area by changing
the level, assign password, description, and
enter a path of where you want to keep the
files for this area. (remember what I said
                             about directory paths?)

Delete: Deletes the whole are! Be Careful!

Quit: Quits to the file system prompt.

Files: This gets you to another prompt. Let's look
                             at it...

                (E)dit File (D)elete File (M)ove File (A)dd File
                (L)oad File (S)ort (Q)uit (T)ransfer

Edit File: Edit the file name, description, etc...
You can select the file either by name,
                               part of name, or number.

Delete File: Deletes file from listing and disk. You
can select the file either by name, part of
                               name, or number.

Move File: Moves a file to another area within current
conference. You can select the file either
by name, part of name, or number.

Add File: Adds a file from your hard drive

Load File Steps through ALL the files in the defined
directory, compares each file it finds to
what is already in your file area so as not
to duplicate files, and asks if you would
like to ADD the file to your bbs file list.

Sort Sorts the files in current area. 41

Transfer: Transfers file to another area in a
                               different conference

Quit: Quites back to the sysop file commands.

This is pretty much the file system. We will be adding
more to the docs as we add more to the system, so let's
                move on from here.

                7.9.5 Bulletins Sysop Commands 42

To add or edit a bulletin, hit "*" at the bulletin
prompt. You will be asked what bulletin you wish to edit,
delete, or if you want to abort this operation. You may
hit a "?" to see a list of what has been setup already.
When editing, you will be asked for a description, a
path/name of the bulletin file, and a security level.
Remember that the system will display ANY text file in any
valid dos path that you define. I try to label my
bulletins so that I will know what they are just by
                looking at the filename.

                example: GAMEREVW.ANS/80 BBSLIST.TXT TWHISCRS.

If you select a file that does not exist, the system will
ask you if you would like to enter the text online. If
you respond with a "Y", you will jump into the text editor
that works exactly like the message editor. If you
respond with a "N", the system will save your bulletin
setup, and you can add the file later. You also have the
option to delete a bulletin from the systen. When
selected, it asks you if it should delete the file.
Responding "Y" will delete the file from your disk, so be
                sure about your answer...

                ** HINT **

Like menus you can have the bulletin section display one
of two bulletins depending on the user's graphics, and col
width settings. They are as follows.

                XXXXXXX.ANS ansi XXXXXXX.80 80 col

If you want the bbs to display a file with no extension
then just add a "." after the name to tell FORCE! not to
add .ans, or .80 and it will always display the one file.

                7.9.6 News Sysop Commands

FORCE! incorporates a powerful, but easy to use way of
entering news into the system locally, or from a remote.
NEWS is a metacommand, (explained in the reference part of
this manual) allowing you to edit, scan new, or read all
of the news in the bbs system. Here's how it works...

Once you select the command that gets you to the news
                editor you will see...

                (A)dd (E)dit (D)elete (L)ist (Q)uit :

Add: Allows you to add new news into the system.
                            Hit "A" and see...

Title: (Place title of news here.) You'll then see...
File Name: (Enter complete path and name)

                ex. C:\BBS\NEWS\NEWS.TXT

                                                                             43
If you do not have a file called NEWS.TXT in this
directory, the system will prompt you with...

File not found - Enter Text? <Y/n>:

If you answer "Y" for yes, (or return), you will jump into
a text editor exactly like the message editor. This
allows you to enter in text for news from a remote
location, or at the local console!

Edit: Edit existing news setups. Select the number
of the news file to edit, and enter the title
and name of a new news file and text if it does
                           not exist.

Delete Allows you to delete old news. You may keep
the news text file by answering "N" to "Delete
text file". Otherwise, the system will delete
                           it for you.

List: Lists all currently configured news in the bbs
                           system.

Quit: Need a degree to figure this one out?

              7.10 Other Menu Commands

There are other commands that are available to you with the
system. These commands are shown with the default letters,
and names, but can be changed to suit your needs.

Area Change: Change conf areas. When selecting this
command, you will be prompted for the
letter of the conference that you wish
to go to. You may also enter a "?" for
                                   the list of available conferences.

Comment: Leave a comment to the sysop. Works
exactly like e-mail, except you don't
have to enter the person that you are
                                   sending it to.

Graphics When selecting this, you can change
                                   your display graphics.

                                   (A)nsi: IBM Color.
                                   (I)BM : IBM 80 col, no color.
                                   (N)one: No graphics, no color.

Hangup: Hangup quickly, no logoff batch, no
                                   goodbye screen.

LogOff: Log off the BBS. Displays a goodbye
                                   screen, and hangs up.

Page Sysop: When you select this, you will sound an
alarm that can be heard through the
host computer speaker. You will get a
"Sysop is not available" message if the
                                   sysop page is off.

current conference. You can search for
them by computer type, area code etc...

Words of Wisdom: Read a comment left by a prevous
                                   caller.

              X-Pert: Toggles auto-menu display on/off.

it for you. When selecting "Y" from
the conference menu, you will see a
